As part of an ongoing focus
on cost-containment and environmentally friendly initiatives, the District
became the first public school district in the United States to operate an
all-electric distribution fleet for all primary distribution routes. The trucks
arrived in July and were put into operation in August 2010. Each truck will
save thousands of dollars in fuel and have a 5-7 year pay back cycle.
To purchase the new
technology the district partnered with the Kansas City Regional Clean Cites
coalition and received $500,000 in grant funds.
The Purchasing and Distribution Services department researches
all available products and services. Purchasing staff works
collaboratively with each site administrator to procure the best products and
services available, all in accordance with Board of Education policies and State
and Federal purchasing guidelines. Purchasing staff is responsible for
writing bids, request for proposals (RFP's) request for quotes or qualifications
(RFQ's) and contracts or service agreements for services. Purchasing staff
also reviews all purchase orders.
The distribution center delivers the required products to each
site in the most cost efficient and timely manner to ensure our students have
the necessary equipment to be successful in the classrooms. Distribution
staff oversees the district's disposal of all surplus materials.
Distribution staff also manages two district warehouses, book depository,
archives, and all district testing materials.
